Foreign Students
Northern Nevada Aviation is proud to be an authorized provider under the Transportation Security Administration's Alien Flight Student Program.
Northern Nevada Aviation has been authorized by the TSA to provide Flight Instruction to non-U.S. citizens after they have been approved through the TSA. This TSA rule applies to all non-U.S. citizens who are seeking any new rating, whether it be an initial Private Pilot, or an Instrument or Multiengine Rating. Licensed pilots seeking BFRs or who simply want to rent an airplane are not required to obtain TSA approval.
This is the link to the TSA's step-by-step Application Guide https://www.flightschoolcandidates.gov/student_help.htm. We recommend that you print this guide for reference as you proceed through the TSA process.
The first step in the TSA process is to log on to the TSA Alien Flight Student Program web site at www.FlightSchoolCandidates.gov. The top section of the page (with the yellow background) is for Flight Schools. Scroll down to the section with the grey background for the Student section, or simply click on the "New Student Account" link near the top of the page. You will be required to create your own log in and password.
Some Basic Information that you will need:
- Northern Nevada Aviation only provides Flight Training under Category 3 of the TSA program, which covers aircraft with a maximum certificated takeoff weight of 12,500 pounds or less.
- Under Step 7 of the Application Guide: Northern Nevada Aviation does not provide Student ID# or Course ID#. Please leave the Student ID# field blank. Under the Course ID# field simply state the type of training that you will be engaged in. For example: "Private Pilot License" or "Instrument Rating". This will be the same information that is entered in the Course Description field.
